Hi, I'm Seba.
I'm an electronic music producer and lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
Growing up in Austria with a Kurdish background, I was surrounded by different musical worlds. The scales and melodies I heard at home were not the same as the ones I encountered at school.
The sounds that shaped my childhood — the microtonal intervals, the bends, the spaces between notes — were often described as “out of tune”, I was taught to hear my own musical heritage as something outside the norm.
At some point, I had to ask myself:
Was the music actually out of tune — or was I taught to hear it that way?
This question became the foundation of my artistic practice. Through exploring different tuning systems, rhythms, and musical traditions, I discovered that listening is never neutral. Our ears are shaped by culture, history, and the sounds we grow up around.
This guide is an invitation to expand your sonic vocabulary, challenge your assumptions, and discover new possibilities for your own musical identity.
